COUNTDOWN to the COLLISION!  The Dawg fight vs The Cat Fight.  It is now 5 hrs. 32 Min 22 Sec until Kickoff!  This day will determine if this team has actually turned the corner and is set to give the Dawg Nation something to hope for the rest of this season, or if the last two weeks have simply been an apparition and there is a real possibility that Georgia could have a losing season.

We will now look at the running back battle.  Kentucky has their 5’09”, 190 lb, Senior, Derrick Locke #20.  This last game he played against Auburn (Did not play against South Carolina) he had 5 attempts for 31 yards (avg of 6.2 yds per carry), 0 rushing touchdowns, and 5 receptions for 47 yards, 0 rushing touchdowns.    We will compare him to Washaun and leave Caleb out, because Caleb did not play last game, nor will he play this one (2 game suspension).  Our 5’11”, 215 lb, sophomore, Washaun Ealey #3 had 17 attempts for 123 yards (avg of 7.2 yds per carry), 1 rushing touchdowns, and 0 receptions for 0 yards, 0 receiving touchdowns Saturday against Vanderbilt.

Derrick Locke, for the season, so far, has 108 attempts for 574 rushing yards (avg of 5.3 yds per carry), 7 rushing touchdowns, 24 receptions for 225 receiving yards, and 0 receiving touchdowns.  Washaun Ealey, for the season, so far, has 77 attempts for 369 yards (avg of 4.8 yds per carry), 2 rushing touchdowns, 5 receptions for 49 yards, 0 receiving touchdowns, 46 yards rushing, and 0 rushing touchdowns.  However, as we all know, these statistics are somewhat misleading in that he has been splitting duties off and on with Caleb King (primarily) and Carlton Thomas. He was benched several times because of his propensity to fumble, and he missed the first game for a suspension.  But last game, being his best, is a good bench mark to use for comparison. Overall, the edge in the running game will probably go Kentucky’s way today.  First, Locke is probably a marginally better running back than Washaun. Secondly, he knows how to hold on to the ball (0 fumbles for the season), as opposed to Washaun (3 for the season, one going out of bounds and two right at the goal line), and third, Kentucky has a stout, veteran defensive front that is led by three seniors.  Our offensive line, until the last two games has been non-existent, creating no holes for our backs.  So, more than likely, their rushing game will probably be more effective than ours today.  Let’s just hope that Washaun can hold onto the ball two games in a row.  If not, this could get ugly!

As I see it we will have to try to win it with the passing game today, just running it enough to keep them honest.  No matter what, this will be a close one that will probably be determined by turn overs and penalties.

Keys to Georgia’s success:

1)      A good passing game attack, with Murray being allowed to “do what it is that he does;”

2)      Murray cannot take sacks.  He must know when to throw it away and not force anything, like he has done pretty much all season;

3)      The coaching has to continue to improve in terms of game calling.  If Bobo goes back to calling a “bomb” on 3rd and one and call a hand-off up the middle on 3rd and twelve, we will get our butts handed to us on a platter.  But truth is, no matter what they say, I think Coach Richt will be doing the offensive play calling on this one and next week;

4)      On defense they need to put the “rush of God” on Mike Hartline each and every play and “blitz the hell out of him”;

5)      Georgia’s secondary needs to keep their eyes glued to Randall Cobb at all times.  He will be the playmaker today.

6)      The offensive line must continue to play better, opening up holes for our backs, and protecting their freshman Quarterback from getting nailed.

So, “drum roll”, the winner today will be Georgia, by a squeaker!  Score: GEORGIA 30 (3 TDs 3 FGs) KENTUCKY  28 (4 TDs)
