We came, We saw, We conquered! Obviously, the battle cry of the Florida Gators, once again, against the Georgia Bulldogs.
Urban Meyer, a damn good coach, and obviously a lot better head football coach than ours, in my opinion, was very humble in a statement post game, in which he stated, “I would like to start off by saying that the team that we just beat played their hearts out and that they are a much better team than their record indicates,” referring to our Bulldogs. Our genius coach, whose record dipped to 2-8 against Florida, had this to say, “It was a good football game. I’m sure the fans loved it and all those watching on television, but it certainly didn’t end the way we wanted it to. It was a game someone had to lose and unfortunately, it was us.” (source: Bulldawg Illustrated Blog)
Well guess what Mark Richt, I am a fan, probably one of UGA’s biggest fans; a Georgia graduate; a member of the “Dixie” Redcoat Marching Band, who was on the same field as our football team every game; not some toothless redneck, who didn’t graduate high school, much less go to our University, who screams that he or she is a Bulldawg fan; and I am telling you flat out that “I did not enjoy that frick’n game”.
I did not enjoy seeing our defense miss tackle after tackle in the first half. I did not enjoy seeing the ability of a good head football coach to totally change his offense for this game in one extra week (something you have not been able to do in an entire season) to utilize the best talents of the players he has.
I did not enjoy seeing the continued coaching mistakes of having too many personnel on the field causing unnecessary time outs to be called (this has gotten real old after 10 years, my friend). I did not enjoy our Defensive Coordinator and players not being able to respond to this new offense in any way the entire game, and let them convert one third down after another. I did not enjoy seeing these kids play their hearts out to actually tie the game and put it into overtime, just for you and your Offensive Coordinator, if you want to call him that, to yank the rug out from under them with stupid play calling.
You have the best field goal and extra point kicker in the S.E.C. in Blair Walsh, who is all but a guaranteed three points if you go nowhere after three downs from the 25 yard line. They have a iffy backup kicker at best. So, do you put in safe, high percentage plays in our first overtime possession (power sweep, screen, the throw to the receiver on the side line behind the line, that you call about ten times a game), of course not. First you run it up the middle for no gain (a total waste) then a low percentage long pass, which was of course intercepted. End of game!
You can say all the “crap” you want Mr. Richt about how great a game it was and how valiant your players played on the field, but when its all said and done, and all the smoke clears, the bottom line is you are 2-8 against the University of Florida during your tenure, and only one of those games was won since Urban Meyer came to Florida. In the mean time, he not only has beat you 5 out of 6 times since he took over the Florida job in 2005, but he has won a national championship twice since he has been there. Steve Spurrier beat you his last year in 2001, and Ron Zook beat you 2 out of 3 games between 2002-2004.
Forget about National Championships. Forget about SEC Championships. You have finally lowered this program to the point that we would just be happy as fans if we could win fifty per cent of our games with Florida, and once again make it a true rivalry, which of course it really isn’t anymore. The University of Georgia Football team has slowly but surely been reduced to the status that Vanderbilt, Kentucky and South Carolina had been for decades. These were teams that we could count on beating every single year, no matter what! Now, we are in their shoes and worse. They are now beating us about every other year too.
I am sorry Mark Richt, I know you are a nice guy, but it is time for you to go. I know you do not realize this, but people who are paid three million dollars a year to be a head coach in the South Eastern Conference are expected to perform better than you have, and we do not give a damn if our coach is nice or not. We just want results!
This pretty much says it all! I got suckered into clicking on a hyperlink in a comment sent to my site. The name of it is http://www.keepmarkricht.com. It sent me to a gator page all in blue and orange with the Florida gator head in the center, and underneath it is simply stated “Thank you!”
