O’LEARY VS THE DAWGS AGAIN!

facebooktwitterreddit

Well, it is now official.  The Dawgs will be playing on New Year’s Eve in Memphis, in the Liberty Bowl, versus the Conference USA champs, University of Central Florida.  George O’Leary is UCF’s coach and has been since 2004.  As we all know, he was head coach for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets from 1994 until 2001, when he briefly became head coach of the “Fighting Irish.”  O’Leary is very familiar with Georgia’s program from his Tech days.  Of O’Leary and the UCF team, CMR said, “George is a hard-nosed football coach and every team that he puts on the field presents a big physical challenge for you,” … “And their young quarterback is a dynamic guy who can throw and run and create problems all over the field.”  Richt also mentioned that the Knights seldom make mistakes and beat themselves.  This is unlike another team we know and love, which shoots itself in the foot all the time. Do not expect this to be a blow out just because we are playing a lower tier team.  This is not Idaho State.  In fact, don’t even think about not recording this on your DVR while you go out and “hoop, holler, and make a fool of yourself, because you think it will not be worth watching.  Not only do I think it could go to the wire.  I think we could lose.

Firstly, our Dawgs have a habit of playing down to the level of lesser teams.  Secondly, and God knows why, because I certainly do not, we have much too much arrogance on our team that will provide an attitude of “all we have to do is show up and we will win this game.”  Thirdly, O’Leary is just as good a coach, if not better, than the one we have.  Lastly, these guys are used to winning this season, and they are just coming off winning their Conference Championship Saturday against SMU.  We, on the other hand, have gotten used to mediocrity and losing at least half the time this season.  This set of mentality and attitudes could get the Knights out ahead quick, and by the time we figure out that we really have to play football, it might be too late.  Or, maybe not.

I think it will be down to the wire on this one.  With a combination of the Dawgs shooting themselves in the foot with turnovers, penalties, bad defense, and desperate coaching, we will be lucky to pull it out.  Final Score: Dawgs 24  Knights 21.
