RICHT HAS HAD A LOSING SEASON AS A COACH BEFORE; WILL HE HAVE ANOTHER??

facebooktwitterreddit

Most of us only know of all the good stuff that Mark Richt has done in the past. The general thought is that he has never had a losing season as a coach anywhere. Even his one season as the offensive coordinator at East Carolina in 1989, the record was 5-5-1.

Well guess what, if the Dawgs screw the pooch in Memphis Friday and end up with a losing season (6-7), it will not be CMR’s first losing season as a coach. Though embarrassed to admit it, Richt reveals that when he was cut by the Miami Dolphins in 1984, prior to his getting a job on the college level, he got a gig at a Boca Raton High school as the quarterback’s coach. Pope John Paul [II] High School’s record that year, as per Richt, was 0-10. After this revelation to the press, Richt said, “….Well, I think we did win one game because a team had some illegal players. I don’t even know if I got paid.”  (source: jacksonville.com The Florida-Times Union)

Soooooooooo, Mark, after 26 years you can joke about and dismiss that losing season by questioning whether you got paid? I don’t think you will be able to get away with that if we stumble in the Liberty Bowl. Your 3 million dollar salary is of record. Therefore, it would probably be, from a historical stand point, a good thing if you do whatever it takes for us to win Friday. Right?? That way you can continue to say that the only losing season you ever had was one for which you don’t even think you were paid.

Go Dawgs!!
