In addition to landing Lee County, Georgia, wide receiver, Sanford Seay last Thursday (See January 9th, 2011Blog), cornerback Damian Swann (rated by Rivals.Com as the number 5 recruit from Georgia) of Grady High School in Atlanta, made his commitment to Georgia public Saturday on NBC prior to the kickoff of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas. Swann was quoted as saying, “It’s where my heart is.” “I always wanted to play for Georgia. I’m trying to turn the program around.” “They like how smooth I play, the raw skills I have, the length that I have and the heart that I have,” “They came to one game this year (referring to Georgia coaches). Even though we lost by three points, they saw that I left everything out on the field.” Swann sounds a little cocky, but maybe that is what the Dawgs need, because we definitely have lost the “swagger.” The cornerback still intends to keep his scheduled visits to Southern Cal and Miami. On this past Sunday, after visiting Athens over the weekend, Linebacker Ramik Wilson of Tampa, Fla., gave his verbal commitment to the Dawgs. Wilson is a 6-foot-3, 218-pound inside linebacker who also had scholarship offers from Rutgers, Purdue and Texas Tech. That now gives Georgia 18 commitments, with perhaps the biggest names still undecided (Isaiah Crowell, Ray Drew, Jay Rome, Malcolm Mitchell and John Jenkins.) (source: UGADogsBlog.com)
More good news, and it goes without saying after the year we had, it doesn’t take much for something be good news, like as long as it is not bad news: Georgia junior offensive tackle Trinton Sturdivant, announced Friday that he will remain in school for his senior season and forego the NFL draft this year. Sturdivant, who was a freshman All-American in 2007, missed almost all of the 2008 and 2009 seasons with knee injuries. He started seven games during the 2010 season (if you want to call it a season). Regarding same, Sturdivant said, “This last season is not how I wanted to end my career.” “I want to be part of a team that gets us back on track and plays for a championship. I also think I can improve my draft status and continue to work on finishing my degree.”
CMR was quoted as saying, regarding Sturdivant’s decision, “we’re obviously excited.” “He’ll be an important part of our team.” I agree with all of that except CMR getting excited. Now that would be a revelation for a coach that has the same exact demeanor before, during and after a game, whether we won by 30 points or lost by 30 points. Oops, sorry! I had promised my wife that I would write a positive blog tonight. Well, I kept my promise. I AM POSITIVE about what I just said about CMR. (source: AJC.Com)
