SHINE THAT SPOT LIGHT ON ME TOO! PART II OF THE EARLY COMMITS: DAVID ANDREWS

David Andrews, a 6’ 3”, 276 lb Center from Wesleyan School, was our fourth commitment, having accepted his scholarship offer from Stacy Searels in February of last year. Having been compared to being a similar player to his elder teammate, Ben Jones, Andrews took it as a compliment saying, “I’ve heard where some people consider me and Ben the same type player, with him being an older version. To be compared to Ben Jones is pretty good. He’s made a big name for himself and I’d love to do the same thing.”

Having been offered already from Michigan and Duke, David was ecstatic when he actually got the offer from the school he truly wanted to go to, UGA. “I’ve always wanted to be a Georgia Bulldog,” Andrews said. “I didn’t know at first if they were going to offer, so when it came I knew right away this was where I wanted to go. I’ve been there so many times; it’s like a second home.”

Way back then David was hoping his buddy, Dalton High lineman Watts Dantzler, would join him as a teammate in Athens. Andrews promised to be an emissary for the Dawgs and try to get others to come to the ‘Red and Black Side.’ Regarding Dantzler, the subject of yesterday’s blog, Andrews said, “Watts and I have developed a special relationship over this process and have become great friends. We first met at the U.S. Army Combine, stayed in the same hotel and hung out together a lot. We drive up for basketball. We’re just good friends.” Of course, the rest is history and David’s buddy committed to the Dawgs this past summer (see 02/12/2011 Blog).

Now we have two (2) big big dudes to open holes for Isaiah and protect Aaron. Ain’t that just a thing of beauty?
