Georgia loses to South Carolina, now 0-2

Georgia Bulldogs lost to South Carolina 45-42 in Athens yesterday. Georgia is now 0-2, 0-1 in conference play. South Carolina is now 2-0, 1-0 in conference play. 12th ranked Gamecocks gave the Bulldogs all they have, including running back Marcus Lattimore who scored a touchdown late in the game.
Georgia took an early 6-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to Blair Walsh’s two field goals.
In the 2nd quarter, South Carolina scored the first touchdown of the game. Alshon Jefferey scored a 34 yard touchdown pass from Stephen Garcia to take a 7-6 lead. The Bulldogs came back and scored a 26 yard touchdown pass from Rantavious Wooten to make it 13-7. South Carolina then came back driving down the field, Georgia just couldn’t stop the running game by the Gamecocks. Melvin Ingram scored a 68 yard touchdown run to make it 14-13 South Carolina.
In this high scoring game, there were 4 lead changes plus one tie. Georgia had plenty chances to build on their lead during the game but couldn’t sustain a good drive.
Marcus Lattimore had a good day, he had 176 yards of rushing, two touchdowns, one passing and one rushing. Georgia Bulldog Isaiah Crowell ran for 118 yards , he ran for a touchdown in the 4th quarter. What hurt Georgia the most was a fumble by Aaron Murray during the last 7 minutes in the game. The fumble ended up being touchdown by South Carolina and South Carolina never looked back.
This was the first time Georgia started the season at 0-2 since 1996. Last time South Carolina beat Georgia two straight seasons was in 2000-2001.
Now lets look at some stats, Georgia did better this week than last week. Aaron Murray was 19/29, 248 yards and threw for 4 touchdowns. He did have an interception. South Carolina’s Stephen Garcia didn’t throw as many passes, he was 11/25, 142 yards passing with 1 touchdown. On the receiving end, Tavarres King had 1 receiving touchdown, he had 2 receptions for 40 yards. Rantavious Wooten had 1 touchdown and that was the only reception he had for the game. Malcolm Mitchell had 5 receptions for 52 yards.
South Carolina receivers had some big numbers but no one had a 100 yard receptions in the game. Alshon Jefferey had 5 receptions for 85 yards, also Ace Sanders had 3 receptions for 43 yards. Big ol Marcus Lattimore had 2 receptions for 8 yards.
Georgia has a steep hill to climb if they want to win the SEC East division. Their national championship chances are over. They play Coastal Carolina next week in Athens before traveling to Oxford to take on Ole Miss. South Carolina will face Navy next week.
