Georgia Football History Part 1

Let’s take a look back at some memorable games in the last 12 yrs. In 2000, Georgia finally beat Tennessee on October 7th 21-10. It was Georgia’s first win since 1988 against the Volunteers. Jim Donnan who was the Georgia coach from 1996-2000, got his first and only victory against the Vols. In 2001, it was the Bulldogs again beating Tennessee. Georgia beat Tennessee 26-24 in Knoxville.

In 2002, it was a great season for the Georgia Bulldogs. Georgia went 12-1 and won the SEC Title for the first time since 1982. The Bulldogs had to come back and beat Auburn in Auburn 24-21 on November 16 to win the SEC East division. It was Georgia’s first SEC East division winner since it started back in 1992. Georgia beat Arkansas in the SEC Championship game 30-3, then beat Florida State in the Sugar Bowl 26-13. In 2003, Georgia again won the SEC East division but lost to LSU in the SEC Championship game. Georgia played against Purdue in the Capital Bowl 34-27 in OT. Georgia finished the season at 11-3.

Georgia finally beat Florida in 2004. Georgia beat Florida 31-24, it as Georgia’s first win against the Gators since 1997. It was Mark Richt’s first victory against Florida, he would get another victory against Florida in 2007. Georgia hasn’t had a Heisman winner since 1982 when Hershel Walker won it as a Junior.
