Georgia wins 4 in a row, beats Tennessee

After starting the season at 0-2, Georgia has rolled on 4 straight victories. Georgia beat Tennessee 20-12 in Knoxville. Georgia snapped a 2 game losing streak in Knoxville. It was also Mark Richt’s 100th victory at Georgia. The Bulldogs are in 1st place tied with South Carolina.

In the 1st quarter Georgia took the lead on a 35 yard field goal by Blair Walsh. Georgia’s defense was stymied in the 1st quarter, not allowing any points by Tennessee. In the 2nd quarter, Tennessee got on the board on a Michael Palardy 28 yard field goal. Georgia came back later to take a 6-3 lead on a 23 yard field goal by Blair Walsh. Tennessee tied the game at 6 on a 43 yard field goal by Michael Palardy. Both teams couldn’t get their offense to score a touchdown in the 1st half.

In the 3rd quarter Georgia scored 14 points to take the lead. Georgia took the lead on a 1 yard run by Isaiah Crowell. Then later, Isaiah Crowell ran for 17 yards for another touchdown. Georgia now leads 20-6. It was pretty much over by the end of the 3rd quarter.

In the 4th quarter, Georgia ran into trouble by penalties. For 4 consecutive times, Georgia was hit on penalties while on offense. Georgia ended up punting at 4th and very long. Tennessee finally scored a touchdown late in the game. Backup quarterback Matt Simms score a touchdown on a 1 yard run. Georgia blocked the extra point. Tyler Bray was hit hard so he had to leave the game in the 4th quarter.

Georgia will play at Nashville next week against Vanderbilt. If South Carolina loses next week and Georgia wins, Georgia will be in 1st place by themselves. Georgia’s defense finally gave up a touchdown, they haven’t given up a touchdown since the South Carolina game last month.
