Georgia escapes a win over Vandy, 5-2

Georgia Bulldogs beat the Vanderbilt Commodores 33-28. It wasn’t easy at the end but Georgia hung on for the win. Georgia has now won 5 in a row and still tied in the 1st place with South Carolina in the SEC East division. The Bulldogs will be off next week, they will play Florida in two weeks.

Georgia and Vanderbilt didn’t score at all in the 1st quarter. Both defenses played very well in the 1st quarter. Georgia got on the board first in the 2nd quarter on a 53 yard field goal by Blair Walsh. Later Georgia got their first touchdown by Tavarres King. He caught a 20 yard touchdown pass from Aaron Murray to put Georgia up 10-0. Vanderbilt got their first touchdown in the 2nd quarter from Jordan Matthews. Vanderbilt’s Zac Stacy threw a 43 yard touchdown pass to Jordan Matthews to make it a 10-7 game. Blair Walsh later kicked a 28 yard field goal to make it 13-7. Blair Walsh did missed 2 crucial field goals in the 1st half.

Later in the 2nd quarter, Marlon Brown scored a 27 yard touchdown pass to increase Georgia’s lead. Georgia now leads 20-7. In the 3rd quarter, the Bulldogs got two field goals. Blair Walsh kicked a 36 yard field goal to make it 23-7. Vanderbilt got a BIG touchdown, Andre Hal ran 96 yards for a touchdown on the kickoff return. Vanderbilt now cut the lead 23-14. Blair Walsh then later kicked a 44 yard field goal, Georgia now leads 26-14. Vanderbilt wasn’t done yet in the 3rd quarter. Jerron Seymour scored a 1 yard touchdown run to make it 26-21. Georgia’s offense just couldn’t score any touchdowns in the 3rd quarter. Vanderbilt’s defense was playing great.

In the 4th quarter, Georgia got a touchdown on a Marlon Brown’s 75 yard touchown pass. Georgia now leads 33-21. This touchdown would be important for the Bulldogs. Vanderbilt used Jordan Rodgers, who is Aaron Rodgers’ brother. Jordan Rodgers is Vanderbilt’s second string quarterback. He ran for 80 yrds on 11 carries. He helped keep Vanderbilt in the game. Vanderbilt then got a touchdown later in the quarter. Vanderbilt quarterback Zac Stacy scored a 19 yard touchdown run to make it 33-28. Georgia did had a chance to score but could not capitalized. Vanderbilt blocked a Kevin Butler punt with 7 seconds to play. Jordan Rodgers overthrew his receiver and couldn’t make a comeback win.

Georgia won but it not easy, usually they will come to Nashville and win big. Not this time, the Bulldogs couldn’t stop Zac Stacy or Jordan Rodgers. With the win, Georgia will be favored over Florida in two weeks. Its a good thing Georgia is off next week, they need a break. Georgia should get some of their key players back for the Florida game.
