Georgia gets hit with suspensions again
By Editorial Staff
Well Georgia enjoyed a great weekend by beating Florida and they were also moved up in the polls. Georgia Bulldogs started the weekend at number 22 and now up to number 18. Let’s start out with one thing, its homecoming week for the Bulldogs. Georgia faces New Mexico State as their homecoming opponent. Tell me one thing, why in the world would New Mexico State want to travel all across the country to face Georgia? Next season the Bulldogs will have Vanderbilt as their homecoming game. Every other year, Vanderbilt is the Bulldogs homecoming opponent.
Let’s now get down to business. Georgia is going to lose three running backs for this week’s game. Isaiah Crowell, Carlton Thomas, and Ken Malcome. Georgia will be without Richard Samuel for the rest of the season. Richard Samuel will be gone for the remainder of the season because of an ankle injury. Richard Samuel had surgery today to repair his ankle. Isaiah Crowell, Ken Malcome, and Carlton Thomas violated the team’s policy and will miss one game. Isaiah Crowell already was suspended for 1 quarter in the Vanderbilt game for undisclosed disciplinary reasons. Carlton Thomas also was suspended once, that was the season opener for disciplinary reasons.
In replace of the three running backs, they are redshirt sophomore Brandon Harton and senior walk-on Wes Van Dyk. Both Harton and Van Dyk did see some playing time earlier in the year. Brandon Harton has 11 carries for 33 yards this year. Wes Van Dyk has 2 career carries for no yards. Georgia Bulldogs also lost offensive lineman Dallas Lee; he suffered a broken fibula in his right leg. He will miss a few games, at least.
So now the question is, can the Bulldogs still win the East division? It’s a good thing Georgia is playing New Mexico State; if they were playing a team like Missouri they would probably lose. The Bulldogs should do fine this Saturday and I don’t think the score would matter too much to say the least. Georgia won’t put up at least 35 points this weekend unless the defense creates some fumbles and interceptions. When Isaiah Crowell, Carlton Thomas, and Ken Malcome come back for the Auburn game, they will have to show that they can move on from their suspensions.
