Suspensions of the three running backs
By Editorial Staff
Isaiah Crowell, Ken Malcome, and Carlton Thomas are suspended for failing a drug test. According to the UGA athletic department, all three running backs took a drug test last Thursday and didn’t get the results until Tuesday afternoon. It takes 5 to 7 days for the lab to analyzed the results. Georgia Bulldogs of course will be without Richard Samuel for the remainder of the season.
Georgia will use Brandon Harton and Wes Van Dyk as replacements for the running game. Georgia is also thinking of using Brandon Boykin as a running back as well. According to the UGA student-athlete handbook, a player’s suspension can be three different policies. Those three are drugs, alcohol, and academic. A player is require to miss 10 percent of competition dates for the first offense. 10 percent translates to missing 1 game, second offense would translate to missing 50 percent of the competition dates which is 6 games. Third time offense, you are let go from the program.
Georgia’s athletic director Greg McGarity played no favorites when he heard of the offense. As soon as the test results came in, he went ahead and suspended Isaiah Crowell, Carlton Thomas, and Ken Malcome. Question still lingers in Athens. Did Mark Richt knew about the failing of the drug test before the Florida game? Some folks think the athletic department put off the suspensions till this Saturday. Georgia plays an easy opponent this weekend, well let’s just say we hope New Mexico State is an easy opponent. Georgia will face Auburn next weekend in Athens.
Isaiah Crowell leads the team in rushing with 689 yards with 4 touchdowns. Ken Malcome has rushed once for no yards, by the way, Ken Malcome only played 1 game. Carlton Thomas has 44 rushing for 200 yards and has 2 touchdowns. Brandon Boykin will probably be on the running back slot in this Saturday’s game. Brandon Boykin has 5 rushing for 95 yards and has 1 touchdown. Let’s hope the Bulldogs can run away from this incident without further more damage.
