Georgia women pound Furman

The Georgia women’s basketball team pushed its winning streak to three games by topping Furman 83-58 Wednesday in Athens.

The No. 17 Lady Dogs (11-2) move into SEC play Sunday by hosting Arkansas at 2 p.m.

Four Georgia players scored in double figures as UGA scored 80 or more points in a game for the sixth time this season. Anne Marie Armstrong had 19 points to lead the way, while Erika Ford had her first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Jasmine Hassell had 15 points and Meredith Mitchell added 12 points.

Georgia never trailed and scored 17 of the game’s first 21 points as Furman (8-4) missed six of its first eight shots. UGA outshot Furman from the field 48.4 percent to 33.3 percent. Georgia also had 15 steals and six blocked shots.
