The Georgia women’s basketball team is liking 2012 so far.

The No. 17 Lady Dogs rained 3-pointers on Arkansas all day long Sunday to top the Razorbacks 67-57 in Athens in the SEC opener for both teams.

Georgia (12-2) was 10-of-18 from behind the arc on the day – well above its 32.5 shooting percentage on 3’s coming in – compared to a 4-for-22 showing for Arkansas (11-2).

The 3-pointer was big for UGA during its backbreaking run to end the first half. Arkansas led Georgia
18-10 with 12:25 left in the half when Georgia reeled off a 13-0 run to take the lead for good. Georgia outscored Arkansas 28-10 over the final 12:25 and hit four 3-pointers in the run. Anne Marie Armstrong had eight points in that span, while Jasmine Hassell had six points and Meredith Mitchell five.

Georgia got it done on the other end of the floor as well by holding the Razorbacks scoreless for 7:43 of
game time in the first half en route to a 38-28 lead at the break.

The Lady Dogs kept it up in the second half. Mitchell and Khaalidah Miller each hit a 3 as Georgia pushed out to a 50-32 lead in the first five minutes. The lead never dipped below double digits the rest of the way.

Hassell led UGA with 19 points. Armstrong had 15 points, while Miller and Mitchell had 12 points
apiece. Sarah Watkins led Arkansas with 15 points.

Georgia next plays at No. 7 Tennessee on Thursday.
