Good afternoon, all. Some UGA notes for you this afternoon:
- Looks like Mark Richt is getting his contract extended another two years to the two he already has left, and no coaching staff turnover is anticipated.
- Former UGA defensive coordinator Willie Martinez may be heading to the Big 10. Tom Dienhart of BTN.com tweeted today: “Willie Martinz to Illinios as DC? I hear it may happen. Stay tuned.” (sic). Martinez was Georgia’s secondary coach from 2001-2004 and defensive coordinator from 2005-2009. He has been the secondary coach at Oklahoma since 2010. This would be an interesting hire for new Illini head coach Tim Beckman; both were coaches in the MAC in the late 1990s.
- Couple of basketball notes retweeted by Sicemdawgs.com from Macon Telegraph‘s Seth Emerson: Georgia forward Marcus Thornton is still out due to knee surgery but is expected back sometime this season. Also, UGA freshman football player Nick Marshall – who also starred in basketball at Wilcox County High School in Rochelle, Ga. – isn’t expected to play any hoops this season, per UGA coach Mark Fox.
