The Georgia football team began preparations for its first Southeastern Conference and road game on Monday with a one-hour workout on the Woodruff Practice Fields.

The Dawgs travel to Columbia, to take on Missouri on Saturday at 7:45 p.m. ET. This will be the league opener for both schools and the first-ever SEC contest for the Tigers. The game will be televised by ESPN2.

The Dawgs logged a full Labor Day on Monday with lifting weights, meetings and practice. Georgia held its practice on the FieldTurf as that is the surface the game will be played on Saturday.

“I saw good focus on both sides of the ball today,” coach Mark Richt said. “We didn’t work them real hard. We did some running beforehand to get the soreness out, and we were just in helmets and shorts so we were not looking for any high-speed collisions. The scouts did a good job of running what we will see when we go full speed Tuesday.”

Saturday’s game will mark the first time since 1992 that the Dawgs have not opened SEC play against South Carolina. Under Richt, the Dawgs are 7-4 in SEC openers.

Monday’s injury report included receiver Marlon Brown (hamstring, limited), guard Watts Dantzler (ankle sprain, out), cornerback/receiver Malcolm Mitchell (ankle sprain, limited), fullback/tailback Richard Samuel (hip contusion, limited) and tackle John Theus (ankle sprain, out).

The captains for the Missouri game will be quarterback Aaron Murray and receiver Tavarres King on offense, linebacker Jarvis Jones on defense, and linebacker Kosta Vavlas on special teams.
