Georgia sophomore Rocio Sanchez Lobato was named SEC Golfer of the Week on Wednesday by the league office in Birmingham, Alabama.

The honor actually covers the past two weeks of competition, including Sanchez Lobato’s co-medalist honors at the FSU Match-Up Tournament on February 17.

A native of Marbella, Spain, Sanchez Lobato led wire-to-wire at the tournament and also helped Georgia capture its first team title of the 2012-13 season.

Sanchez Lobato opened the event with a 6-under 66, a shot off the Bulldogs’ 20-year-old record low round. She was actually 8-under through 16 holes before a double-bogey at No. 17. Sanchez Lobato finished the 54-hole event at 2-under 214.

In the team competition, the Bulldogs posted a four-shot win over No. 6 Oklahoma.

The 2-under tally was Sanchez Lobato’s third under-par tournament finish in 15 events played at Georgia. It also was her fourth top-10 finish but first of 2012-13.

The Bulldogs will return to action next weekend when they travel to HIlton Head Island, South Carolina, to compete in the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at the Long Cove Golf Club.
