The University of Georgia cheerleading squad has been selected to appear on the NBC Today Show on Monday morning, May 13, in New York City. The Bulldogs will send 12 cheerleaders and one mascot to do a one-minute routine on the Plaza, along with several bumpers in and out of commercial breaks, to kick off the Today Show’s “Varsity Week.”
The cheerleaders making the trip will be Alexa Carr, Alia Church, Kaile Deloney, Shane Doster, Cassidy Drysdale, John Reese Fortson, Adam Foskey, Brandon Jenkins, Hannah Lech, Joel May, Chelsea McNeal, Mitchell Smith and Tyler Stanford.

“For me, I am most looking forward to seeing the excitement of the cheerleaders,” said Georgia spirit coordinator Ben O’Brien. “I don’t think all of them have even been to New York City before, and much less to perform on the Today Show. I am also really excited about being able to positively represent the great state of Georgia, our University and most importantly, the UGA Athletic Association on a live, national stage.”
Georgia was the only collegiate spirit squad chosen to appear on the show, as the TODAY show made selections based upon videos from the 2012 and 2013 NCA Collegiate National Championships.

“If there is one thing I wish for our group to take away from the experience, it would be to live in the moment,” O’Brien said. “The opportunity they have to go on the Today Show and perform is a once-in-a-lifetime chance, and I hope they truly see and understand how much of an honor it is to represent the University of Georgia in doing so. I want this experience to be something they all reminisce on for many years to come.”
