Georgia senior tight end Arthur Lynch has been named to the 2013 John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List, according to an announcement Tuesday by the Maxwell Football Club.

The Mackey Award, now in its 14th season, is given annually to the nation’s top tight end. The Mackey Midseason Watch List will be released on October 14 while the semifinalists will be announced on November 11. Finalists will be named on November 25.

The winner of the Mackey Award, along with the winners of a host of other awards, will be announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on December 12.

Lynch, a native of Dartmouth, Massachusetts, started 13 of 14 games last year and finished with 24 catches for 431 yards and three touchdowns. Named the team’s Most Improved Player, the 6-5, 254-pound Lynch posted career highs in receptions, yards and touchdowns in 2012. He had three catches for 50 yards and completed a pass on a fake punt that led to a touchdown versus Alabama in the Southeastern Conference Championship Game.

Lynch has been named a Phil Steele Preseason Second Team All-American this summer after earning All-SEC Third Team honors in 2012.

Former Bulldog and current Cincinnati Bengal Orson Charles was one of three finalists for the Mackey Award in 2011.

Dawn of the Dawg’s Sonny Kennedy even captured Lynch trying his hand at quarterback against Tennessee.
