Georgia Football: Leonard ‘Mad Dawg’ Floyd…Get Used To Hearing It
By Danny Bishop
Leonard Floyd is a football player.
The coaching staff is impressed, he’s the type of player that makes coaches smile and get that little twinkle in their eye that says….. just watch this kid.
If Bulldog fans had the opportunity to see him practice, there would be a few thousand already lined up at the gate, his relentless attack is enough to make Uga growl and slobber like a Mad Dawg.
Floyd graduated from Dodge County High School following an All State career, he spent last season at Hargrave Military Academy and enrolled this summer with the intent of making an immediate impact on a Georgia defense that was reloading and looking for play makers. Defensive coordinator Todd Grantham needed someone to step up and play opposite another budding superstar in Jordan Jenkins who moved into Jarvis Jones’ old spot at outside linebacker. Floyd now has Grantham thinking he may have two stars to work with as the true freshman has rocketed up the depth chart and looks to be the starter at the SAM linebacker position when the Dawgs get after the 8th ranked Clemson Tigers on August 31st.
Following Thursday’s practice, coach Richt had this to say about Floyd, “He just practices so hard and is relentless, his head is still spinning while he’s learning, but he has really impressed me with how hard he practices on a daily basis. He is going to get better and better because of it. He has been standing out to me for a while.”
Bulldog fans loved Leonard Pope, the big tight end from Americus and Floyd may even rival Lynyrd Skynyrd in popularity among the DawgNation before he moves on to the NFL. He is 6-4, 225 and fast, he’s going to get bigger and better over the next couple of seasons, keep an eye on #84, he’s a player.
Leonard Floyd…..get used to hearing it.
