Wide Receiver

This may seem a bit curious, given all the talent the Bulldogs have had at wide receiver, but a slew of injuries and some graduating seniors have left things a bit uncertain for this receiving corps.

Malcolm Mitchell — although productive and important when healthy — continues to be a question. His abilities are without question, but his propensity for injuries makes depending on him as the number one guy a tough job. Senior Chris Conley looks to be the number one flanker if Mitchell isn’t able to go, and senior Michael Bennett is the team’s best split end. Junior Justin Scott-Wesley (who will be suspended for the first game) can relieve Bennett at split end, but needs to show more consistency.

Incoming freshman Shakenneth Williams could possibly shake things up and get some playing time if he has a good fall. The other freshman receivers all have talent, but will more than likely be redshirted. Sony Michel’s HS teammate Isaiah McKenzie also may be able to work his way into the rotation, but more than likely will be used on special teams.

Bottom line: This group needs a healthy Mitchell and Bennett to make teams think twice about loading up the box to stop the Georgia rushing attack.
