Cornerback

This is one of two positions where the Bulldogs will have some serious work to do. The secondary has been absolutely decimated by transfers, dismissals and graduations, and new defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt has his work cut out for him.

Georgia has some depth coming back at cornerback, but none with a lot of starting experience, so much of it will be the great unknown until some of these youngsters have a chance to show what they can do.

Damian Swann is going to be the key to making this all work. After what would be considered a sub-par season by Swann’s standards, he’ll need to rebound in a big way this season. Hopefuly coach Pruitt will better be able to utilize Swann’s talents, and the senior won’t be leaned upon as heavily into getting his teammates into correct formations and positions.

Other than Swann there is a bevy of returning juniors, all of whom could eventually be the next big playmaker, given the opportunity.

However, there is one incoming freshman — Malkom Parrish — that could turn into a starter quickly. Parrish is one of the recruits in this class that was overshadowed by some of the big name 5-star studs coming in, and who signed with much less ballyhoo. But this kid is a talented corner (ranked 8th in the nation at his position) who may step in and become a household name in a hurry.

Bottom line: The jobs are there for the taking, and between the slew of upperclassmen, incoming talent, and some converted WRs, coach Pruitt will find players to make sure the Dawgs don’t get burned in the air.
