Rocky Top

OK, first of all , the song Rocky Top is not even Tennessee’s official fight song. I would venture to say maybe 80 percent of the fan base does not know that, but their fight song is actually Down The Field.

Rocky Top has been the bane of my existence since birth. If you grow up in Knoxville you hear it any and everywhere. The song has nothing to do with football and has everything to do with some man being in love with some cross breed animal? “Once I had a girl on Rocky Top half bear the other half cat” What the what?! Who is this woman? Can someone call animal control and get this man some help!

Other than the annoyingly confusing lyrics to this song, it plays at Neyland stadium way too often. Songs should be played during touchdowns or a big play. The Vols play Rocky Top if they get a first down, (I know in recent years this does constitute a big play so I guess I can give them a pass) but I should not go home and have nightmares because of a song. If you have never been to Neyland and plan on attending at some point in your life bring some earplugs. You’re welcome.
