SS/RB J.J. Green
J.J. Green began to let Georgia fans who he was last season when he was filling in for the injured Marshall and Gurley. Green was a godsend for Richt and Bobo, coming in as a true freshman in dire circumstances, and rushing for 384 yards on 68 attempts, as well as scoring three touchdowns.
This season Green has been trained in the defensive secondary and right now is listed first on the depth chart at strong safety. His speed and athleticism will be a big help to defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach Jeremy Pruitt. At 5’9, Green is a little undersized, which is why he’s being used at safety rather than corner, but he has great hands and good instincts.
Green should emerge as a surprise leader in the secondary, and he can still be used at tailback if the need were to arise. I’ll call it now – at least three interceptions for Green this season.
