Defensive Players:

This is a little different because it really depends on the league you are in as to whether you take a team defense or if you do individual players.

Last year was the first year I played in a league where we took individual defense players, and I would have really liked it except some jerk took Geno Atkins from me. For those who do not know he is my favorite NFL player, and with his stats he should be yours too. After an injury last year and having to miss quite a few games, Atkins still managed to get 6 sacks. If you are playing with individuals he is an absolute must, and do not sleep on getting him as I did because you will be so disappointed you did.

Another great pick up is Tim Jennings with 2 touchdowns, 4 interceptions, and 3 forced fumbles he is one of the most talented cornerbacks in the league. If you can’t get him in time then just grab Brandon Boykin and all will be fine. Boykin had an impressive year last year especially with it still being such a young player in the league. With 2 forced fumbles, 6 interceptions, and a touchdown he was a major playmaker for the Eagles last year. All my friends in Philly were calling me asking me where he came from…the University of Georgia…that is where he came from and we are damn proud!

Another great way to get points on defense is sacks, and no two guys better to do that than Charles Johnson and Justin Houston. Both those guys had 11 sacks last year and Houston did not even play the whole season! The last defense player to highlight and not sleep on is Thomas Davis. With 2 interceptions, a forced fumble, and 4 sacks he is a great pick up in individual defense leagues. Overall your top 5 defensive players you want to look at (in this order) are: Geno Atkins, Tim Jennings, Thomas Davis, Justin Houston, and Charles Johnson.

For those of you who play in standard leagues and just pick a defense may I suggest going with the Panthers. I know it seems crazy, but with both Thomas Davis and Charles Johnson you are guaranteed sacks, interceptions, tackles, and forced fumbles. Both are great veteran players who are consistent.
