No. 5 – Can Huston Mason get the job done at starting QB?

The answer most Georgia fans and analysts would give to this question is a resounding yes. Everything points to Mason being ready to step in to Aaron Murray‘s huge shoes, and to lead the Bulldogs without missing a beat.

But the fact of the matter is that we have a very small sample size on which to base these projections for Mason, and as teams and defensive coordinators start to see film revealing some of Mason’s habits and weaknesses, there is always the possibility for things to go bad.

Mason has had four seasons learning offensive coordinator Mike Bobo‘s system. He studied and learned from Aaron Murray. He’s got a lot of football smarts, and was a very highly recruited quarterback coming out of high school. Those are all positives for the 5th year redshirt senior.

But so far, he’s faced Kentucky, Georgia Tech and Nebraska – only one of which had a defense worth speaking of, and that’s the game the Bulldogs lost.
