Injury updates on Georgia Bulldogs RB Keith Marshall, FS Quincy Mauger

The Georgia Bulldogs had two main goals against the Troy Trojans this past weekend. Obviously, to win the game, but also to stay healthy for the upcoming visit from the Tennessee Volunteers.

More from Georgia Football

The first goal was accomplished with little sweat broken, as Georgia routed the Trojans 66-0, thanks in part to huge games from freshmen Sony Michel and Isaiah McKenzie.

The second goal was a little more tricky, with two Bulldogs leaving the game with injuries – running back Keith Marshall and free safety Quincy Mauger.

Mauger left early in the game with what was termed as an upper body injury, and looked to be favoring his right shoulder as he walked off with trainers. Mark Richt later clarified, stating that it was a stinger to his shoulder, and adding, “my guess is he’ll be fine” for the Tennessee game.

That’s good news for the Bulldogs who are running a little short of defensive backs.

Marshall’s injury was a little more concerning. He was tackled awkwardly and had his right knee and lower leg bent backwards, and had to be helped off the field. He was seen after the game on a pair of crutches. Given that he is on his way back from an ACL repair that ended his 2013 season, many feared the worst.

Good news came on Marshall as well, however. Coach Richt stated in his weekly teleconference:

"“It’s more of a contact injury. I really don’t want to report on something I really don’t know the answer to other than there’s no ACL issues so that’s the good news.”"

It’s not known whether or not Marshall will be available for the game against Tennessee, but a report of no damage to the ACL is important. A contusion or strain can be remedied in a matter of weeks.
