Former Georgia Bulldog Bubba Watson and former Jacket Matt Kuchar paired in Ryder Cup
After racing out to an early lead in morning fourball play at the 2014 Ryder Cup, Team USA finds itself behind Team Europe 5-3 at the conclusion of Day 1.
The USA must win 11.5 of the remaining 20 available points to take the trophy home from PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles, Scotland. If the European’s stretch their advantage on Saturday morning, it could be curtains for Team USA.

European Captain Paul McGinley is a master tactician and is playing from ahead as he sets his pairings for Saturday. To gain any possible advantage, USA Ryder Cup Captain Tom Watson has shuffled his lineup. The result is the Saturday morning pairing of former Georgia Bulldog Bubba Watson with former Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Matt Kuchar.
The pairing of a Bulldog and a Yellow Jacket will not be a footnote in the Ryder Cup history books. Golfer watchers around the state of Georgia, however, will find the pairing ironic.
Dawgs and Jackets will be torn between cheers and boos when Watson and Kuchar tee off in the wee hours of the Georgia morning. But, there will be no tension on the course. Both Watson and Kuchar know better than anyone to put aside their college rivalry. Only outstanding golf against the European pair of Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson can keep Team USA in the competition.
A win keeps US Ryder hopes alive and creates an unlikely pair of heroes. At least unlikely on this side of the pond.
