The Georgia passing attack will get a big boost this week when wide receivers Malcolm Mitchell and Justin Scott-Wesley return to action for the first time this season against the Vanderbilt Commodores.
Mitchell has been out since the opening game of the 2013 season when he tore his ACL in an end zone celebration against the Clemson Tigers. It looked like he would be back for the start of this season, but then injured his knee during spring practices and had to undergo arthroscopic surgery in July.
Scott Wesley also suffered a torn ACL last season and has also been dealing with a nagging ankle injury.
Through the first four games of the season, the Georgia offense has basically been Todd Gurley, and then everything else. The passing game has been nearly nonexistent, other than some dink-and-dunk possession passes.
Having the two top receivers back in the game will hopefully be a help to senior quarterback Hutson Mason, who has looked very pedestrian so far this season.
The Commodores tough one of the worst pass defenses in the nation, allowing 254 passing yards per game, and that in itself should help get Mason and his receivers become more comfortable before Georgia hits the road for a very tough stretch of games.
The other wide receiver who has been absent, Jonathon Rumph, will still likely be out for at least one more game.
