Quarterback Hutson Mason Can’t Carry This Team
With the Gators clamping down on the run game, and Georgia having to come from behind for most of the game, it was going to fall on Hutson Mason’s shoulders for the first time this season to lead this team to a win.

He buckled under the pressure.
Mason’s throws were errant, and many of the tosses that were accurate were dropped by his receivers. That “little clock” that is so often referred to in a quarterback’s head was seemingly on terminal snooze, as Mason was spending far too much time standing in the pocket trying to find an open man, resulting in his being sacked three times and being constantly under duress.
But beyond the numbers (which Mason did have one of his best statistical days, mostly out of necessity), you just never really got the feeling that he was confident that he could lead this team back, and that may have translated into an overall deflation of confidence in his teammates.
You hate to look back, but when the chips were down and the Dawgs needed to get down the field in a hurry, there was never any question that Aaron Murray could get the job done. With Mason, there is only muffled hope.
