Georgia Football Now No. 15 in College Football Playoff Rankings

There was good news for Georgia football in the third College Football Playoff rankings. The Dawgs moved five spots from 20 to 15.

On the other hand, there was bad news for the Bulldogs. Auburn’s bumbling loss at home to Texas A&M resulted in the Plainsman sliding to number 9 and Georgia’s opportunity to win two games against top five teams was eliminated.

Georgia can still win two games against ranked teams before the SEC Championship game. Defeating Auburn – now ranked 9 – and Georgia Tech – now ranked 23 – would position Georgia to vault into the four team National Championship tourney with a win over a number 1 ranked Mississippi State in Atlanta.

Georgia is ranked seventh among the 11 two loss teams in the top 25 and is ranked ahead of one loss Nebraska. Of the two loss teams ranked ahead of Georgia, some seem fairly ranked – Ole Miss for example, sports a win over Alabama. UCLA, on the other hand, perhaps has not been as impressive as their number 11 rank.

It doesn’t really matter.

No ranking is meaningful if a team cannot win the next game. The strategy is simple.

Just win.

If Georgia can win it’s last three games, get some luck, and get into and win the SEC Championship game, the Dawgs have an excellent chance of playing for the National Championship.

The journey begins anew every Saturday, and this Saturday, it begins against Auburn between the hedges.
