New Wide Receivers Coach – Bryan McClendon

Bryan McClendon is moving over from running backs coach to wide receivers coach to fill the spot that was vacated when Tony Ball accepted a position at LSU.

McClendon had been the running backs coach since 2009, and the results there can speak for themselves. As for the receiver corps, that’s a unit that will need some special attention this season with several seniors leaving the group, and a number of new recruits stepping in.

Having a familiar face will be a positive for guys like Malcolm Mitchell and Justin Scott-Wesley, as they try to step in and become the leaders of this group. McClendon was a wide receiver in the most successful senior class in Georgia history (2002-2005), and he’ll bring a lot to the table for the kids coming in.

You can’t argue that keeping McClendon on staff was important, as he has a lot of experience, and is one of Richt’s best recruiters. But how he’ll flourish in his new role is unknown. Most likely, this will be a positive thing for the receivers.
