Amarlo Herrera – Linebacker

While many draft scouts have Herrera tabbed as a 6th or 7th round selection, I’m going out on a limb to say that he’ll be a surprise pick much earlier than that. Herrera is a tremendous talent that was overshadowed by an endless stream of great linebackers, and he’ll be even better in the NFL.

He’s a quality inside linebacker who can penetrate and works well in blitz schemes, and he’s also excellent in pass coverage. He’s not going to be the guy to stop a big back or line up against big receivers in coverage, but as a guy to shoot gaps and work in blitz packages he’ll be perfect.

Likely Landing Spot: Baltimore Ravens (4th Round, 37th pick/136th overall)

The Ravens would be an ideal spot for Herrera to learn from some of the best coaches and teammates in the league. They use some exotic substitutions on defense, and love to confuse quarterbacks.

Baltimore has a compensatory pick in the 4th round, which would be a great place to pick up a guy like Herrera. They’d get what could end up being a Pro Bowl caliber linebacker at a bargain price.
