The Georgia women’s tennis team (20-6) is the sixth seed in the 2015 NCAA Championships, hosting the first and second rounds at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex from May 9-10.
This is Georgia’s 29th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championships and the Dawgs are 70-26 all-time in the competition, including 10 trips to the semifinals and national titles in 1994 and 2000. Last year, Georgia advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament for the fourth straight season.
“We’ve got a great weekend in-store with Charleston Southern, Duke, and Purdue coming to town,” said head coach Jeff Wallace to Georgiadogs.com. “They are three great programs that have had good years. It’s a super-exciting time of the year for everybody, and for us to be hosting, to be a high seed, and to have this opportunity in front of us with the year that we’ve had, we’re really fired up.”
The Bulldogs first round match is against Charleston Southern at noon on Saturday. The Buccaneers compiled are 18-2 and defeated Coastal Carolina to win this year’s Big South Championship. This will be the first ever meeting between the Bulldogs and Buccaneers.
The other first round matchup features 23 ranked Duke and 38 ranked Purdue. They will play at 9 a.m. on Saturday with the winner advancing to face the winner of the Georgia vs. Charleston Southern match on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The winner of the Athens Regional will advance from the second round to the Sweet 16 hosted in Waco, Texas, from May 14-25. The singles and doubles draws for the NCAA’s individual tournaments will be posted on NCAA.com on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Live scoring will be available for all matches on Georgiadogs.com, and those interested in the Georgia matches can follow along via the live chat that is also offered on Georgiadogs.com. Daily tickets to the NCAA first and second rounds can be purchased at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex up to one hour before the start of each match day.
