There will never be another Herschel.
The current MMA fighter says he’s in shape for a return to the NFL. No one seems particularly interested in arguing with the 53-year-old Heisman trophy winner from Georgia.

“Let me tell you the reason why [I can play],” said Walker reported by John Breech of CBSSports.com. “Running backs today don’t play every play. They only play, like, a couple of plays and they go out of the game. I can return kickoffs. I still run very well, like I’ve always (run). So I know I can be a positive thing. The last time I ran a 40, I ran a 4.3. That was like a year ago. That was when I had not been doing any track work. All I had been doing was [MMA].”
The oldest player to play in the NFL was George Blanda. At age 47, Blanda served as a backup quarterback and place kicker for the Oakland Raiders. If Walker is serious, he would surpass Blanda by six years and do it as a running back.
Walker has suggested he could pay again in the past. The difference this time is there might be a team that will let him.

Falcon Head Coach Dan Quinn says the Falcons will give him a shot. “We have room.” Mike Floris of NBCsports.com quoted Quinn.
According to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the AJC.com, Quinn told a crowd at the Buckhead Business Association meeting: “He’s one of my all-time favorite players. Yeah, we have room for him.”
No one will know if either side is serious unless Walker suits up. But don’t bet against the poetry writing 40 carry a game ballet dancing apprentice TV star MMA fighter and who knows what all else. He’s Herschel. There’s only been one and there will never be another.
