4: Wyclilffe Lovelace

After losing his freshman year to injury in 1984– playing only in the first and last game – Lovelace reluctantly took a late career redshirt after his junior year, receiving his only mention in the Georgia record books as the Scout Team Most Outstanding Defensive player n 1987. But in 19898, Lovelace found a home starting at defensive end for Georgia and it was in his final home game against the bitterest of foes he received his reward.

Captaining the Bulldogs in Vince Dooleys final season, Lovelace finished his up and down career on the highest of highs, batting, then intercepting and racing to the endzone with a Georgia Tech pass before falling to his knees. The play sealed Vince Dooley’s final win against Georgia Tech in Dooley’s and Lovelace’s final game in Athens.

Lovelace spent his entire career climbing out of football’s valley’s. But in that glorious moment, he rose to the mountain peak.
