“I just picked UGA,” Walston told Kipp Adams of 247sports.com. “This past weekend, the visit to Georgia just blew me away. They rolled out the red carpet for us and we all felt comfortable with it. I can’t wait to be a part of the Georgia football family.”
Besides the Dawgs, Walston held offers from Boston College Maryland, North Carolina and North Carolina State. He is the Rivals.com national 29 number tight end and is rated a three star prospect. Walston caught 44 passes for 847 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2014 for the New Hanover Wildcats.
Georgia tight-end coach John Lilly made Walston a priority early in the recruiting process. The early attention paid off with a commitment.
“They feel like I am one of the top tight ends in the country,” Walston told 247sports.com’s Kipp Adams. “Hopefully I can be a reliable pass-catcher, run-and-pass blocker and an all-around solid tight end, like the ones Georgia has had in the past.”

Walston narrowed his college decision to Georgia, North Carolina State and North Carolina last month. North Carolina State appeared to lead, but Walston postponed his announcement and after some more soul-searching, chose the Bulldogs over North Carolina. In the end, the decision was home state school and proximity to home verses an elite program.
“It was a really difficult decision. Last night I could not sleep, just thinking about it,” Walston said again to Kipp Adams of 247sports.com. “But being up there in Athens last weekend, something inside of me felt at home. Coach Richt and Coach Lilly are just awesome.”
Walston has not decided if he will enroll early. Walton gives Georgia twelve class of 2016 commitments.
