The Georgia Football series with South Carolina has been like no other. Dawn of the Dawg reviews the Top Five Plays from the “expect the unexpected”  rivalry.

Woven with long strands of tradition, college football rivalries are heirlooms passed through the generations. Pawned by conference rearrangement, some rivalries are lost forever.

Can lost rivalries be replaced by rivalries manufactured by conference expansion? If Georgia – South Carolina football competition is any indication, oh my, yes.

Georgia and South Carolina began competing on the gridiron in 1894. The Dawgs and ‘Cocks have played 67 times, every season but four since Wally Butts retired. When South Carolina joined the Southeastern Conference in 1990, the game took on greater significance.

Now thanks to the Bulldog Nation’s old friend, Steve Spurrier, there is no doubt – Georgia verses South Carolina is a rivalry game.

Though conference brotherhood is relatively new and the rivalry a recent concoction of the Head Ball Coach’s wizardry, Georgia – South Carolina has always had the same “expect the unexpected” quality associated with the game today.
