Our Players Don’t Know Your Players

In all rivalries, the players are well acquainted with each other. When Georgia plays any of its rivals, the competition between players is a continuation of competition that began in high school and in some case the elementary school playground.

Missouri’s roster boasts a mere five players from Georgia and seven from Florida, there are only two from Alabama and none from South Carolina. Georgia has one player from anywhere in the Midwest, and he’s from Indiana.

There must be personal familiarity between the competitors. There will never be the cousin against cousin and the brother against brother competition the Dawgs have when playing Tech or Auburn. There will never be the son competing against the father’s alma mater that happens with surprising regularity in a rivalry game.

The players don’t know each other, and you have to know someone to hate them. And you can’t have a rival, not around here anyway, without some hate.
