Georgia Football Can Find Elite Quarterback Talent In-State (video)

If the Georgia football program can bring the top in-state talent to Athens, Running Back U could become Quarterback U.

Georgia football will go far and wide to get the best high school quarterback talent in the nation.

But with Georgia high school football trending toward upbeat passing offenses, the Dawgs may not have to leave the the borders to find great quarterback talent to operate Mark Richt’s offense.

The Dawgs went across the continent to seal the deal with the 2016 national number one quarterback, Jacob Eason from Lake Stevens, Washington. But Georgia went no further than McEachern high in Marietta for the national 2017 number 2 ranked quarterback Bailey Hockman.

Bailey Hockman (6-2, 210) as a sophomore, Hockman was 187-of-351 passing for 3,551 yards, 42 touchdowns and 10 interceptions for a 10-4 team that reached the Class AAAAAA semifinals. He also punted for a 44.1-yard average. Hockman was the AJC’s first-team Class AAAAAA all-state quarterback.

Rated the number 2 pro-style quarterback nationally among juniors, Hockman is committed to Georgia.

It gets even better in the class of 2018. The 247sports.com top 2018 player in the country is also the top quarterback in the country for 2018 and will play his sophomore season at Cartersville High School.

Trevor Lawrence (6-5, 191) passed for 3,042 yards 187 completions out of 310 passes for 26 touchdowns and seven interceptions Cartersville 12-2 Class AAAA semifinal team in 2014. He was first-team all-state, perhaps becoming the first freshman quarterback to achieve such an honor. Lawrence is rated by 247Sports.com as the No. 1 quarterback prospect in the country among sophomores.

But the Cartersville sophomore best not look back. Houston County’s Jake Fromm (6-2, 215), also of the class of 2018, was 249-of-394 passing for 3,629 yards, 31 touchdowns and five interceptions for a 10-3 AAAAA quarterfinal team. He was first-team all-state and the Georgia Sports Writers Association AAAAA offensive player of the year. Fromm is rated the 8th best quarterback in nationally in the 2018 class. Alabama, and Ole Miss are early leaders for Fromm’s signing day signature.

Rated the fourth best pro style quarterback nationally, the class of 2016’s

Jawon Pass

of Carver-Columbus(6-4, 220)

threw for

2,153 yards and 28 touchdowns with four interceptions while rushing for 398 yards and nine touchdowns as a junior. Pass is committed to Louisville.

And rising senior Garet Morrell, Lee County (6-3, 185) was 175-of-301 passing for 2,702 yards and 26 touchdowns for an 8-3 team that lost in the second round of the Class AAAAAA playoffs to state runner-up Archer. Morrell is committed to Marshall.

Brian Schottenheimer and Mark Richt might be spending their frequent flyers miles recruiting something other than quarterbacks.
