Georgia Baseball Summer League Wrap Up

The Georgia baseball boys of summer return to Athens Town.

Classes began Monday and many Georgia baseball players have returned from a summer on the small town wooden bat circuit.

The summer’s action includes Robert Tyler’s 3-0 record to lead Team USA. Trey Logan, Henry Rowling and Stephen Wrenn played for championship teams to highlight summer league action by the Bulldogs.

Baseball practice will resume at Foley Field on Sept. 13. The 2016 baseball season opens Feb. 19, and Georgia’s complete 56-game schedule will be released later this year. Here’s a summary of the Bulldogs summer League action.

Robert Tyler posted a perfect 3-0 record and a 1.00 ERA in nine innings for the USA Collegiate National Team. Tyler appeared in three games with two starts, including a July 4th start against Cuba in front of a sellout crowd of 10,352 at BB&T Ballpark in Charlotte, allowing allowed just one hit in four innings in the 11-1 series-clinching victory.

Tyler also pitched briefly for the Bourne Braves in the Cape Cod League before reporting to USA Team Camp in mid-June.

Stephen Wrenn batted .273 with four doubles, five home runs, 16 RBI and nine stolen bases in 39 regular season games for Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox of the Cape Cod League. The Red Sox went 28-24 including 6-2 in the postseason to claim their second straight CCBL title

Henry Rowling batted .274 with five doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI in 22 games for the Lima Locos in the Great Lakes League. The  Locos finished 28-7 during the regular season and then captured the GLSCL title.

Trey Logan batted .190 with four RBI and four stolen bases in 23 games also for the Lima Locos in the Great Lakes League. Logan was 2-for-4 with a run scored during the postseason.

Heath Holder posted a 1-2 record and 3.00 ERA in nine starts for the  Lexington County Blowfish in the Coastal Plain League. In 48 innings he struck out 43 while walking 2.5. Holder threw the first CPL no-hitter since 2013.

The Blowfish went 28-28 during the regular season and advanced to the finals of the West Division playoffs. Holder started one post season game, pitching six innings and giving up five hits and an earned run in a no decision outing.

Nick King batted .250 with 11 doubles, 20 RBI and 17­ stolen bases in 41 regular season  games for the San Luis Obispo Blues in the California Collegiate League. King was named a CCL All-Star and went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases in a 7-4 victory as a member of the North squad. The Blues finished 32-16 in the regular season and advanced to the first round of the playoffs. King slapped two hits, including a double and, had  a stolen a base and RBIs in the postseason.

Bo Tucker went 0-1 with a 7.31 ERA in 10 games including three starts, posting 12 strikeouts in 16 innings for the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod League.  The Commodores finished 13-24.

Mitchell Webb ed .131 with two doubles, a home run and eight RBI in 24 games while starting 15 games for the Peninsula Pilots of the Coastal Plain League. Thnished the season 28-25, advancing to the semifinals of the divisional playoffs.

Skyler Weber batted .299 with four doubles with six home runs, 25 RBI and 21 stolen bases in 39 games, all starts, also for Peninsula Pilots of the Coastal Plain League.

The Pilots finished the season 28-25 and advanced to the semifinals of the divisional playoffs.
