Georgia Golf: Greyson Sigg Medalist at Carmel Cup

Georgia Golf is off to a fast start with a second place team finish at the Carmel Cup with Grayson Sigg taking the individual title.

Georgia golf’s Greyson Sigg claimed his first medalist honor as a Bulldog at The Carmel Cup on Sunday at Pebble Beach Golf Links. The Augusta native made par on the first playoff hole to take the title.

“We could not be prouder of Greyson,” Georgia head coach Chris Haack told Georgiadogs.com. “He’s worked very hard to get to this point. He’s been a very steady player for us the last couple of years, so it’s nice to see him break through and get one.”

The junior ended regulation tied with Hannes Ronneblad of Texas Tech and Matthias Schwab of Vanderbilt at two-under 214. Sigg made par on the extra hole, while Ronneblad and Schwab each made bogey.

Last season, Sigg recorded six top-20 efforts, including a 10th-place showing in the Southern Intercollegiate Championship. Sigg’s career is on an upward trajectory, finishing second in the 2015 Georgia Amateur.

in the team race, Sigg lifted the Bulldogs to second place – six shots behind Oklahoma State at 1-over par.

Junior Jaime Lopez Rivarola led Georgia on Sunday with a three-under 69, followed by Sigg at two-under 70. Last season Rivarola came in first in the nine-man Puerto Rico Individual, placed fourth in the Southern Intercollegiate, and represented Argentina in the World Amateur Team Championships in Japan.

Freshman David Mackey shot a 1-over 73, while senior Sepp Straka and sophomore Zach Healy came in at 2-over 74. Redshirt freshman Jack Larkin Jr. had the Bulldogs’ non-counting score of six-over 78.

“Our guys were pretty solid all weekend,” said Haack. We had a lot of positive moments and we can build on that success moving forward.”

Straka followed Sigg in 10th place at 1-over par. Lopez Rivarola and Healy took 16th at two-over 218. Larkin wound up at 7-over 223 and Mackey finished at 10-over 226.
