Georgia Tennis: Women Dominate Puerto Rico College Challenge
After the Georgia tennis women found they had six spots in the ITA national rankings, the Dawgs went to Puerto Rico and validated their rankings.

After winning all three doubles matches and four of six singles matches on the first day of the Puerto Rico College Challenge to roll past Illinois, the Lady Netters took down Miami in a tough match Saturday.

The Lady Netters won two of three doubles matches and three of six singles battles against the Hurricanes on the second day of the Puerto Rico College Challenge in Palmas Del Mar.
“It was a great day out here for us,” said Associate Head Coach Drake Bernstein to Georgiadogs.com. “We had some great battles in both singles and doubles. Ellen (Perez) highlighted our day with a great win over the number 6 player in the country (Stephanie Wagner). We’re off to a great start and looking to continue to build off of today.”
Perez, ranked 29 nationally, defeated sixth ranked Wagner 6-3, 6-2. Also winning were Silvia Garcia and 72 ranked Caroline Brinson,who defeated number 63 Clementina Riobueno 6-0, 5-7, 6-1.

In doubles play, the Dawgs’ team of Garcia and Kennedy defeated a combo of Zhang and Clara Tanielian, and the 51 ranked Brinson-Hannah King pairing defeated Ana Madcur and Sinead Lohan 6-4.
On Sunday, the Lady Dawgs finished their Puerto Rico trip with a flourish, taking two of three doubles matches and sweeping singles play by a tally of six matches to none over Mercer.
“We had a strong finish to the tournament today,” said Bernstein. “We had a great weekend both on and off the court and feel like our fall is off to a great start.”
The Bulldogs dominated on Sunday from start to finish, claiming straight-sets singles victories across all six courts.
Georgia also took doubles victories with Perez-Gould winning 6-2 against Sidor and Fougner and King-Brinson taking their match 6-2 over Christie Cesarini and Liza Klachkin.
Garcia and Shaffer fell 6-4 to Stravroulaki-Korta.
“We have seen great progress this fall in many areas as a team,” said Bernstein. “We have learned some areas to continue to improve. We will be up against some of the toughest competition in the country at the All-American Championships and are looking forward to the great opportunities out there.”
