In 2008 Georgia entered the season ranked number one and the Bulldog nation was confident. Georgia swaggered through the early season in preparation for what would assuredly be a glorious whipping of Nick Saban’s Alabama team. Alabama, motivated by the announcement that Georgia would wear black uniforms, played with a furry that the then number 3 ranked Dawgs did not match. Determined to let Auburn alone suffer the indignity of being whipped by black clad Bulldogs, the Tide rolled to a 41-30 win.

It would not be precise to say the two teams went in opposite directions after that game, but it would not be unfair to say so, either.

The Tide sprung from that night to win three National Championships and the Bulldogs slowly descended to a six win season before shaking out of their funk to meet Alabama in the 2012 SEC Championship game.
