In 2012, one team stood between Georgia and a National Championship game against an undermanned Notre Dame squad. That team was Alabama in the SEC Championship game. Georgia played with grit and cleverness. The Dawgs never quit. Mark Richt out coached Nick Saban, at moments to the point of comedy, embarrassing his Tide counterpart on special teams and red-zone defense.
But in the end, the hero wore Crimson as C.J. Mosley made the play of his career – and what will eventually be remembered as one of the greatest single plays in Alabama football history. Mosley deflected a pass destined for the arms of Malcolm Mitchell in the end zone into the hands of Chris Conley in the field of play, allowing the clock to run out on the Georgia comeback. That play resulted directly in another Alabama National Championship.
That night, Bulldogs circled October 3 2015. And here the Bulldogs stand, with one team between itself and a final sprint to the SEC Championship game – that team is Alabama.
