By Josh Johns
Georgia Bulldog Mixology returns from a week off to sort through the rubble of this season’s once lofty expectations, searching for hope and maybe some mixers.

Welcome back! Well, really I was the one who was away. Yes, your faithful guide through the world of tailgate inspired inebriation worked a full weekend at New York Comic Con and was thus spared watching another devastating bulldog loss, though the radio feed wasn’t particularly merciful either. Did you miss me? I missed you.
So, let’s take stock of what’s good about this Georgia team. Hm. Eh. Well, we all like Jake Ganus, right? He seems to be a really cool bro. Jake Ganus is like your friend’s friend who went to UAB who your friend brought to a party one time only for you to discover your friend’s friend is in fact much cooler than your friend. Right? Right.
Anything else looking good? No? Yea, me neither.
As I write this article I am packing to return to Athens for homecoming where our much-maligned Mark Richt lead Georgia Bulldogs will kick-off a rare true night home game against the also struggling University of Missouri Tigers. With the cocktail party on the horizon the Bulldogs will look to turn this season around, right the ship, get back on the rails, and mix metaphors galore. So too must we as a fan base turn around our negative outlook and support a team that has turned in two consecutive bummers of a game.
And the best way to do that? Cocktails! Let’s get drunk guys!
Luckily our friend Joey Vargas from American Whiskey NYC has sent us a PEACH of a drink to get this party back on track. A feel good fixer that anyone can enjoy. Let’s take a look at what Joey’s got for us this week.
The Sony Michel Swizzle! (You’re not better than drinking a drink with the word “Swizzle” in it, Brad.)
INGREDIENTS
-.75 oz Lime Juice
-75 oz Falernum*
– 1.6 oz Jamaican Rum
-5oz Smith and Cross “Navy Strength” Rum**
DIRECTIONS:
1. Mix all Ingredients Into Your Glass
2. Top With Ice
3. Top With Two Dashes of Angostura Bitters
4. Garnish With A Nice Fresh Nutmeg On Top And For a nice Finishing Touch Let’s Shave Some Fresh Nutmeg Top
Notes From Joey:
*Now you’re all like what the heck is falernum, Joey? Falernum (pronounced fah-learn-um) is a sweet syrup used in Caribbean and tropical drinks. It contains flavors of almond, lime, ginger and/or cloves, and sometimes vanilla or allspice. Basically it’s delicious tropical sugar you can buy in a liquor store (most of the time it contains rum). If you can’t find it, simple syrup will certainly do.
**Dudes this is hot, so hot in fact let’s say we were in the British Royal Navy together and our barrel of rum opened and soaked our gun powder? No worries man, the gun powder still can catch fire! There is that much alcohol is this stuff! So delicious, so very, very boozy.Guys, this season isn’t going how we had hoped. You know it, I know it, your one friend from high school who is a Vols fan knows it and he has certainly told you as much. But this right here is a serious drink, and it will help bring you back to life. Now Joey and I support drinking, even drinking in excess, but we do want you to drink responsibly and a 7:30pm kickoff certainly leaves a lot of time for mayhem and misfortune, so I have taken the liberty of laying out what you can expect from your big homecoming day.
Ok, yours truly has a plane down to Athens to catch. I hope you will all join me in a day of relaxed celebration lifted free of the expectations and pressures we placed on this season. Who knows we might even have some fun on the field as well. Until next time!
Joey Vargas: As head bartender at American Whiskey NYC, Joey Vargas brings his signature approachable charm to the crafted cocktail. A former Baseball player at USF, and a self-described “shot and a beer guy,” Joey became accidentally enamored with bar tending while working as a bartender at the John Dory Oyster Bar between 2011 and 2013. Wanting a craftsman not simply a mixologist behind the bar, Joey quickly rose through the ranks in NYC. Now, a head bartender at American Whiskey NYC, Joey spends his free time with his kickball team “The Rescue Rangers” and watching his dog Delgado chase squirrels.
Josh Johns: A University of Georgia graduate, Josh works for Valiant Comics in New York City. Josh unapologetically and unironically watches HBO’s GIRLS and engages in discussion about which GIRL he’d be. He is Soshanna.
