Georgia Football: In-State Rival Helps Dawgs in Recruiting (video)

Georgia Tech’s huge upset win over Florida State this past weekend may have helped the Georgia Football team land a top recruit.

Bad blood. That is one of the many ways to describe the loving feelings between Georgia and Georgia Tech.

Separated by a mere 70 miles, the two schools compete in every way. One of the biggest forms of competition comes in recruiting.

The South is rich in football talent, and both schools do whatever they can to lure top recruits to their school.

With that said, something very interesting happened over the weekend.

Georgia Tech’s wild win over Florida State not only salvaged their season, but it may have pushed a former Seminoles commit to Athens.

According to Jeff Sentell of Dawg Nation, Vandarius Cowan (OLB, 6’4’’ 215 Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Palm Beach Gardens High) de-committed from FSU while on a recruiting trip to Miami (FL) over the weekend. He has also confirmed that UGA is his number two school at the moment.

Cowan, a 2017 graduate, is a four-star prospect listed as the 151st best player in the country on ESPN.

Although Cowan is still over a year away from signing his letter of intent, the irony in the situation cannot be glossed over. Can the Bulldog nation actually look at one of the biggest and most improbably wins in Tech history as a positive for the club in Athens?

The objective of a college football program is to win games. Tech was simply doing their job against a top ten opponent at home. If Cowan ends up in a Georgia uniform two years down the road, the Yellow Jackets will surely not lose much sleep over it.

On the other hand, something does have to be made about the gracious helping hand the team from Techwood Drive delivered to their in-state foes should this happen. Only time will tell will this one.
