REPORT: Faton Bauta to Start For Georgia Football Against Florida

The Georgia football team look to get back to their winning ways as Coach Mark Richt has dabbed Faton Bauta the starter against the Gators.

It only took seven games, but Faton Bauta will finally get his first chance of the season to prove he is the man to solve UGA’s quarterback woes. Mike Huguenin of Gridironnow.com was the first to report of the third-stringer’s promotion.

I personally have been calling for Faton Bauta to at least be given a shot since this offseason. Bauta is a fourth-year junior who has already graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in sports management, which proves that he’s intelligent. At 6’3″, 215 lbs, he has the size to be a starting quarterback in the SEC. He’s been praised by Mark Richt and his teammates for his impeccable work effort, with the head coach calling him the “hardest worker on the team.”

So, the question of why he hasn’t seen the field yet is raised. My guess is that it’s probably because he is more of a dual-threat quarterback than his peers and Georgia runs a strictly pro-style offense, although there’s likely more to it than that. Regardless, the coaching staff has decided that they want number from West Palm Beach, Florida to be the first man up when the Dawgs meet the Gators in Jacksonville on Halloween.

Speaking of Halloween, many of you Dawg fans probably find the notion of sending the third-string quarterback into action against a rival who is much improved from the team that slaughtered us last season to be a little spooky, and I totally understand that. You might also think this entire season has been a trick rather than a treat, which I also agree. However, we’re still very much in the hunt for an SEC East title and a trip to Atlanta. In fact, we control our own destiny from here on out. So before you start stress eating all of the Halloween candy that you’re supposed to give to the children on Saturday, calm down for a second, and remember that strange things happen rather often in college football.

The coaches would not make Bauta the starter if they did not think he could handle it. So on Saturday, sit back, try to relax, maybe have a few Twix nearby, and be ready to cheer on Mr. Bauta. You never know, he might just give you a treat.
