Georgia Bulldog Mixology: Georgia-Florida Weekend
By Josh Johns
This week Joey and Josh serve up your very first (of many) drink at the Georgia-Florida game and The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party!
Welcome to Georgia-Florida weekend ladies and gentlemen! As the Georgia faithful departs en masse to the sunny shores of Jacksonville, Joey and I have been working overtime to bring you the perfect cocktail to kickoff the most important tailgate of your year.
Though the Bulldogs will have their hands full with the heavily favored Gators this Saturday in Jacksonville, the REAL battle will be raged long before the 3:30pm kickoff time. I am, of course, referring to the merciless war that will be waged between you and your hangover.

Yes, a tradition as timeless and proud as The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party itself Georgia fans getting straight ruined the day prior to the game and dealing with crippling, debilitating hangovers well into the following afternoon is part of our heritage as Georgia fans. However, with Faton Bauta making his first ever start against seemingly insurmountable odds we need each and every member of our fan base from Athens to St. Simons to Jacksonville fully operational and rowdy as early as possible. It is for this reason that our faithful cocktail craftsman Joey Vargas hit the lab. Using advanced research tactics, cutting edge technology, and genius level ingenuity I bring forth to you the Georgia-Florida breakfast cocktail and hangover cure. Without further ado joey and I are proud to present to you…
The Gordon’s Breakfast
From Joey’s Desk: So, this week we’re doing an awesome drink by a huge Mets fan named Sam Ross. I’m not a big fan of tomato juice, so for all you people like me who aren’t really down with the Bloody Mary this is the breakfast cocktail you’ve dreamt of!
In your shaker place (or solo cup)
-2 ounces of gin
-6 lime chunks, and lightly muddle
-3 slices of cucumber lightly muddle
-1/2 oz of simple syrup
-4 dashes of hot sauce (I prefer cholula, who doesn’t)
-2 dashes Worcestershire sauce
Now, simply add some ice and shake! Pour all the contents into a glass. No strainer needed!

And there you have it. It is breakfast in a glass, and the perfect easy-drinking cocktail to jump start your gameday, erase your hangover and make you the best, drunk, obnoxious Georgia fan you can be! The festivities in New York are already getting started, so we gotta bolt. So, until next time, GO DAWGS!
Joey Vargas: As head bartender at American Whiskey NYC, Joey Vargas brings his signature approachable charm to the crafted cocktail. A former Baseball player at USF, and a self-described “shot and a beer guy,” Joey became accidentally enamored with bar tending while working as a bartender at the John Dory Oyster Bar between 2011 and 2013. Wanting a craftsman not simply a mixologist behind the bar, Joey quickly rose through the ranks in NYC. Now, a head bartender at American Whiskey NYC, Joey spends his free time with his kickball team “The Rescue Rangers” and watching his dog Delgado chase squirrels.
Josh Johns: A University of Georgia graduate, Josh works for Valiant Comics in New York City. He is dressing up as Snorlax this Halloween, which works on a number of levels.
