A pair of Georgia football players were arrested early Wednesday morning on marijuana charges.

According to Seth Emerson of DawgNation.com, freshman football players Natrez Patrick and Chauncey Rivers were booked by the UGA Police Department on misdemeanor charges of marijuana possession of one ounce or less.

Both Patrick and Rivers are highly touted defensive players from DeKalb County. Patrick, a former four-star inside linebacker from powerhouse Mays High School, has appeared in seven games this season mostly on special teams. Rivers, a product of Stephenson High School, was a member of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s prestigious Super 11 team in 2014. He has appeared in only two games as a defensive lineman.

The news continues to go from bad to worse for the UGA football team. Less four days ago, the Dawgs were blown out by archrival Florida. This morning they have to deal with this off-the-field issue. Per UGA athletic policy, both players must serve a one-game suspension.

This type of news begs the question have some of the Georgia players started to give up on their season? Most of the time when teams start dealing with player misconduct issues it arises after losses. This may be a sign that this Georgia team may be starting to unravel.

Although Patrick and Rivers were not key role players, the mindset of a team can be looked at from any and all of its parts.

Regardless of how bad their season may be going, UGA cannot take for granted their game this weekend against Kentucky. Losing a home-contest to the Wildcats would cause a riot in Athens.

Somebody needs to take control of this team whether it is the coaches, the seniors, or the captains. That person or group of people needs to stand up and knock some sense into this team. They need fixing, and they need it quickly.
